The Search For More
Many people end up in a church because they are searching for something they can’t find anywhere else. It’s a natural thing to do, actually, because the need for something more is placed in us by the creator. It’s part of who we are. It’s not a desire for more in a sense of worldly things, but rather it’s a longing for truth, for healing, for peace, and for love. Perhaps that’s why you’re reading this—because you feel that something is missing from your life.
We’d like to help you in your search for more, your search for things like meaning and purpose in life, fulfillment and peace. You might want to start right now by reading the Searching? brochure. To explore matters of faith more deeply, join us for the next Discovering Faith class or contact any of our Pastors at the Church Office. We welcome the opportunity to answer your questions and explore this important matter with you.
Understanding Baptism
Your decision to be baptized may be one of the most important you will make as a follower of Jesus Christ. We believe that baptism is not for the purpose of joining the local church but to express your decision to follow Jesus Christ.
Three things happen in your baptism experience:
- Baptism is an outward expression of the inward reality that something has happened to me spiritually; that I have had a spiritual rebirth.
- Baptism is a statement of identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In baptism, I am declaring that I have died to my old, self-centered ways. They are buried in the water, and I am raised up as new—spiritually alive for the first time.
- Baptism is a public confession to the personal Lordship of Jesus Christ and a desire to walk in obedience to God’s will. Life is no longer about what I want, but rather, what God wants to do with my life.
Whether your baptism is occurring immediately after your profession of faith or after a long journey in Christ, our desire is to see you enjoy the blessings obedience in this important practice of the Christian faith.
For more about baptism, read through the About Baptism, The Meaning of Baptism and the Your Baptism brochures. To talk to someone about baptism, or to schedule your baptism, please contact the church office and make arrangements to speak with one of our Pastors.
