Outreach Connections - Sharing Our Faith

harvestimage
We love this place, this crowd, and this moment in time. But it’s not enough to keep the great truths of our faith to ourselves. Whave accepted the commission to go out and tell everyone who will listen, both here in our hometown and around the globe, that this grace is for them too. Everyone is invited in…everyone is welcome.

In order to make sure we reach out to both our neighbors who are close by and to the distant nations, our outreach ministries are organized by target region in two ministry groupings – Local Outreach and Global Missions.

Local Outreach

We recognize that every believer has the responsibility to share the love of Christ with those around them in their homes, workplaces and schools, and throughout the community in which they live. The goal of our Outreach Ministry is to fulfill Jesus’ commission to share the good news by loving and serving others, by praying for our community, and by equipping, encouraging and sending our church family out to share their faith.

The Evansville Task Force

The Evansville Task Force is a group of outreach and service minded friends that meet regularly to pray for our neighborhoods and to plan opportunities to meet the needs of the under-served in our community. You might just find it a great place to serve with us if topics like prayer, community service, social advocacy, and local outreach appeal to you.

Get started by joining us for our weekly prayer fellowship every Wednesday from 12:00 noon – 1:00 PM at Crossroads in room TR201.

Annual Outreach Events

We sponsor several major annual outreach events each year that have great evangelistic potential. Our best resources are poured into these events as we go out and invite the whole community to come and meet Jesus.

Our spring events include the Easter Egg Hunt, Eater at Roberts Stadium and the Spring Musical. Vacation Bible School (VBS) for kids is our big summer outreach event to children ages 3 years through grade 5 and their families. Nut Night is our family-friendly Halloween alternative in October that features entertainment, food booths, games, giant inflatables and children’s rides right here on our campus. Finally, we always celebrate the Christmas season with the Christmas at Crossroads musical celebration services.

These outreach events give us a chance to reach out to our friends, family members, co-workers, and others with an invitation to come and see, and a chance to have a life-changing encounter with Jesus.

Crossroads Cupboard Connection

The Crossroads Cupboard Connection is a community support ministry here at Crossroads that collects food and personal hygiene items for distribution to those in need in our community through our partnership with the Evansville Christian Life Center.

You can participate by simply remembering to pick-up one item for the Cupboard each time you shop for yourself or your family. Items may be dropped off at the collection shelves located just inside the Lobby entrances.

The most frequently needed food items are canned meats or stews, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, boxed macaroni and cheese, dry pasta and pasta sauces – particularly items that don’t require milk or butter to prepare. Personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant are also needed.

Global Missions

The purpose and vision of our Missions Ministry is to reach the lost peoples of the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ through recruiting, preparing, nurturing, and empowering those who have been called to missionary service. We are also committed to teaching our church family about the critical mission of global evangelism and exposing them to God’s work in the mission field through participation in short-term trips.

We are motivated by God’s heart for the lost and his worthiness to receive the worship of the people of all nations. The ultimate goal of our ministry is to hasten the return of Christ and bring the world into worship of Him!

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew. 24:14)

Missions Task Forces

While the term “task force” has kind of a military ring to it, when we refer to a Missions Task Force here at Crossroads we’re speaking a different language.

A task force at Crossroads is simply a team of volunteers that have pooled their hearts, gifts and talents and have adopted a region of the world. These groups pray for their regions, do research and networking, take short-term mission trips, and love and support the individuals and families who are serving in those areas.

We have task forces established for several areas of the world, including one that focuses right here on our community.

Missions Connections for Small Groups

Missions Connections is how our many small groups play an important role in our world missions vision at Crossroads. Through this simple program, small groups select one of our global groupings and start by praying for the region, the work and the workers serving there, with information and prayer points provided by the Missions Ministry. Additional opportunities are also available for small groups to connect with the worker Care Teams to participate in support projects.

Missions Connections is a great way for our small groups to be connected to our missions vision and to affirm and encourage our global workers.

Short–term Mission Trips

A short-term mission trip really puts hands and feet on your faith and gives you the incredible perspective of seeing the world through the eyes of a loving God who has a heart for the peoples of all nations.

Short-term Trip FAQs

Am I qualified to go on a short-term mission trip?

We’ve all been commissioned by Jesus to go into the nations and share the good news with everyone. A short-term trip will move you out of your comfort zone and stretch you personally as you glorify God through your faith, courage and obedience in going. Of course, you’ll be prepared and trained along the way. Short-term trips are all about teams—not solo adventures.

Where will I go?

Since we work in specific regions of the world, it’s likely that you’ll travel to an area that we are familiar with and have visited at least once before. In the past, overseas trips have included areas such as Haiti, South America, North Africa, The Horn of Africa, and Central Asia. Trips closer to home have included Mexico, Michigan (Dearborn), South Dakota (Pine Ridge), Ohio (Cincinnati), and Mississippi (Hurricane Katrina recovery).

How will I pay for my trip?

There are expenses associated with mission work, including the costs of transportation, lodging, and meals, and you will need to cover the cost of these items for your trip.
Managing costs is important to us, and have a great deal of experience in finding the most affordable ways to travel. We’ll do our best to hold these costs as low as we can and still accomplish the goals of the trip.
We encourage all short-term trip participants to prepare for their trip by inviting others to pray for them and support them financially. Inviting others to be a part of your trip allows them to cover you in prayer and to share in the blessings of being a part of something very special. We’ll help you step-by-step through this process.

How will I prepare to go?

In a series of team formation meetings, you and your team will meet together to prepare, build relationships, educate one another, get inspired, prepare spiritually, and seek God's plans and purposes for your trip. These team formation times are an essential part of trip preparation.

What will I do on the trip?

Explore a new culture, pray for God’s Kingdom to come to the region, encourage workers in the field, use your gifts within your team and on directed projects, discover God’s heart, and come back and share your experience with others!
