Finding Your Serve as a Small Group

Small Group Serving Plan
You are empowered to go and serve in the name of Jesus Christ and for his glory. Here are seven simple ways to serve in your small group:

Care for each other. That simply means to support, encourage and pray for each other. Generously and cheerfully provide for each other as you have needs.

Make a Small Group Missions Connection. Select one of the global groupings and commit to praying for that region and those workers as they advance the Gospel around the globe. Contact Lori Rogers at 858-3080, ext. 340 for details.

Do it yourself. Organize your own serving opportunities with one of our Community Ministry Partners or just go out and find someone or some way to serve.

Serve with Crossroads. Participate in the annual church-wide Day of Service on Saturday, May 5, 2007. Mark your calendars now and watch the weekend bulletin for details.

Clean the Worship Center. We ask every group to sign up to clean the Worship Center one time during the year. Contact Kevin Springer at 858-3080, ext. 338. All equipment, supplies and instructions are provided. Serve together and make it a night out afterwards!

Support the Crossroads Cupboard Connection. Encourage all members of your group to bring in one food item for the Crossroads Cupboard Connection each time they grocery shop for themselves. More details below.

Serving Opportunity Descriptions

Sports Ministry
– Organize a team and join in our sports outreach by inviting others to come and play with you.

Major Outreach Events – Jump into a serving team and help out with our major community outreach events like Nut Night, Easter at Roberts Stadium, and Vacation Bible School.

Special Worship Services – Pray for and invite new families to join you and your group at a special worship event such as Christmas at Crossroads or Easter at Roberts Stadium.

Show-up & Serve - Watch for our Show-up & Serve events in the weekend bulletin. No planning is necessary, just get your group together and show-up and serve!

Annual Day of Service – Join with the entire church family in the Day of Service in May. We’ll provide a selection of great opportunities for groups to serve together all across our community.

Worship Center Cleaning – Please sign up to clean the Worship Center one time during the year. It’s easy to do, all of the gear is provided, and it’s a great opportunity to get out and serve as a group and have some fun together afterwards.

Missions Connections – All of our small groups are asked to make a “Missions Connection” with one of our global groupings of workers. This program is designed to educate our church family on our global outreach efforts and to engage all of us in prayer for our global workers.

Community Ministry Partners – Plan you own serving opportunity by contacting one of our ministry partners directly and arranging to help them out. You do not need to inform the church staff that you are serving with these organizations.

Crossroads Cupboard Connection – Food and toiletry donations to the Cupboard go directly to the Evansville Christian Life Center for distribution to those in need in our community. The most frequently needed food items are canned fruits, canned meats or stews, soups, boxed macaroni and cheese, dry pasta and pasta sauces, and one-pot meals that do not need butter or milk to prepare. Personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant are also needed. Items can be dropped off at the shelves located just inside the north and south entrances.

Church Ministry Teams – There are many opportunities for groups to help out our ongoing ministry teams at Crossroads either on a regular basis or on a one-time project. Watch the weekend bulletin for details.

Community Ministry Partners

Evansville Christian Life Center
– Over a dozen ministries utilizing hundreds of volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours are devoted, in this former monastery, to helping restore people through Christ. These ministries address a wide range of needs as they minister to and serve thousands of people yearly. Phone 423-9222.

Evansville Rescue Mission – The mission, established in 1917, is one of the oldest ministries in continual operation in our city. For over 87 years, the shelter has provided men with beds and warm meals. Camp Reveal provides a unique experience for low-income children each summer. The Youth Care Center is a juvenile detention facility where young men experience rehabilitation in a positive Christian environment. Phone 421-3800.

Friendship to Internationals – Hundreds of students from all over the world have made their way to our community, and many of them are new to our culture and the language. This ministry makes an intentional effort to build relationships through American families making “friendship adoptions” with new international friends. Students don’t come live with you, they simply need some American friends to spend a little time with each month and help them learn about and live in our culture. Share a meal, a movie, a family cookout, or just simply include them in some of your everyday life. Contact Sherri Moore at samoore@evansville.net for details.

Habitat for Humanity – Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 174,000 homes in the US and around the world. Affordable homes are purchased by low-income homeowner families with no interest charged on the mortgage. Homeowners and volunteers build the houses while churches, businesses and private citizens provide financial support. Help build a house! Warrick phone 897-4404. Evansville phone 423-5623.

Impact Ministries – Impact offers a variety of special programming for urban children and adults. They also sponsor the Impact Christian Health Center, which offers affordable medical and dental care to residents of Evansville’s inner city, regardless of their financial limitations. Over 90% of their patients are uninsured and under-served. Many patients are the working poor who do not qualify for aid, yet cannot afford conventional health care. Impact promotes a spiritual atmosphere in which patients are given the opportunity to discuss not only their physical concerns, but spiritual matters as well. Phone 422-7607.

The Potter’s Wheel – This ministry, founded in 2003, is a multi-church supported inner-city mission. God is using the Potter’s Wheel through ministries like a clothing bank, food pantry, soup kitchen and unwed mother’s shelter. Phone 205-9080.
