frequently asked questions about our ministry at Crossroads.
What is the History of Crossroads?
Our history reaches back to the 1940s when a fund was
established at First Christian Church in downtown
Evansville to support a new church on the growing
east side of the city. By the 1960s, significant
momentum was created to pursue this vision. On Easter
Sunday in 1967, forty-four joyful souls gathered for
morning worship in an eastside home – our very
first service!
In 1969, property was purchased on the corner of Bellemeade and Cullen Avenues. The first building was constructed and Cullen Avenue Christian Church opened its doors in November of 1969. Over the years, the building was expanded several times to accommodate a growing church family.
In 1997, Cullen Avenue changed its name to Crossroads Christian Church in anticipation of a move to a greatly expanded new campus under construction in Newburgh. On October 3, 1998, the Crossroads family celebrated its first service in the new 90,000 sq. ft. campus on Outer Lincoln Avenue.
A new campus addition of expanded space and extensive remodeling was completed in the summer of 2007.

How many people attend Crossroads?
It’s no secret that we have a large church
family. In fact, thousands of people gather here
regularly to celebrate weekend services, attend
classes, participate in small groups, and to serve
together. It’s a great blessing to share in
such an incredibly diverse family of faith.
But just being big is not the point. It’s also important to think small too, especially when it comes to matters of fellowship, growing in your faith and taking care of one another. If you’ll look a little closer, you might just be surprised to find small communities within our church family where people can connect on a more personal basis and share life together.

Is Crossroads part of a denomination?
Crossroads is an independent, nondenominational
Christian church. Our Elders prayerfully provides the
vision and direction for our ministry. Although we
exist apart from any external authority or control,
we do participate with other churches in many
projects and programs that exalt Jesus Christ and
spread the Gospel.
What should I wear?
At Crossroads, you’ll see as much variety in
dress as you see in people. Some wear T-shirts and
jeans—others wear the more traditional Sunday
attire. Wear whatever you feel is comfortable and
appropriate for sharing in weekend worship.
Where is Crossroads located?
Our campus is located at 10800 Outer Lincoln Avenue
in Newburgh, just south and east of the intersection
of the I-164 bypass and the Lloyd Expressway. Access
is available from Outer Lincoln Avenue and from
Epworth Road.

What are the weekend service times?
We have three identical worship services each weekend
on Saturday evening at 5:45 PM and Sunday morning at
9:00 and 10:45 AM. Nursery, Preschool and Elementary
children’s programming is available for all
services.
Where do I go once I get there?
Park in the visitor parking on the south side of the
building and enter through the main doors under the
large canopy. There will be Greeters inside the
entrance that will welcome and assist you.
Can I get a copy of the weekend sermon messages?
Yes. Copies of our weekend sermon messages are
available on cassette and CD in the Resource Center.
You can also listen to the weekend sermon messages
directly from this website, in iTunes and on your
iPod. Go to the Sermons page for
instructions and details.
What happens during Communion and Offering times?
The Lord's Supper (Communion) is the memorial Jesus
gave to remind us of the price He paid for our
sins…death on the cross. We celebrate this act
each time we gather in worship and all Christians are
invited to partake of the bread and the cup together
after a time of quiet meditation.
As Christians, we give our offering out of love to support God's work through Crossroads. Our guests should not feel obligated to give. Our hope is that our visitors receive something from being here.

What’s available for my children during weekend service times?
Nursery and Preschool care and programming are
available during all weekend service times. Sontown,
our weekend worship celebration for elementary kids
(grades 1-5), is also available during all weekend
service times. Middle school (grades 6-8) and high
school (grades 9-12) Bible studies are conducted on
Sunday mornings during the 9:00 AM service.
Does Crossroads have small groups?
Small is good too. We have a big church family, which
is why we also focus on being small. Thousands of us
meet regularly in small groups throughout the
community to build relationships, learn and
grow together, pray, and to share fellowship
as a small family within a family. It’s
how we encourage and care for each other.
What Bible classes are available?
We offer a wide variety of Bible study opportunities
and growth classes on an ongoing basis. We have
classes that meet on a weekly basis as well as those
that are scheduled on weekends and weekdays evenings
throughout the year. Visit the information counter in
the Lobby for a complete listing of current classes
or click here for more information.
Does Crossroads have any community outreach events?
Crossroads has several large community outreach
events each year. Most notable among those is Easter
at Roberts Stadium, Vacation Bible School, Nut Night
Halloween Family Alternative and Christmas at
Crossroads. In addition to these, nearly all church
events and services are open to the community.
Does Crossroads support missionaries?
We are committed to sending out and supporting
workers in many regions around the globe.
Opportunities are available for everyone to pray for,
encourage and support our church family members
serving in the mission field. See the Outreach page for information
on how we are reaching out to share our faith.
